Lick Observatory still trying to mitigate damage after extreme wind event - CBS San Francisco
Nearly three weeks after severe winds damaged the Lick Observatory near San Jose, crews are still working on emergency mitigation efforts. The observatory's shutter was damaged in a storm with wind gusts up to 114 miles per hour, exposing the Great Refractor telescope's lenses and electrical systems to rain and moisture. The university is uncertain if the multi-ton shutter can be salvaged and has closed the observatory to the public.
