The Israeli professor that the BBC won’t interview
The Israeli professor Avi Shlaim, a renowned historian at Oxford University, has been critical of the current Israeli government, describing it as the most racist and belligerent regime, and believes it has made Israel unsafe for Jews. Despite his prominence, the BBC has not interviewed him over two years of genocide in Gaza, reportedly due to his self-identification as an anti-Zionist Jew. Shlaim, who once supported Zionism and served in the Israeli military, now advocates for a one-state solution for Palestine and Israel. He has also discussed the influence of the pro-Israel lobby in British politics and the conflation of anti-Zionism with antisemitism by the Labour Party.
