I went down a rabbit hole about why American football is called football and ended up discovering buzkashi. It’s a traditional sport in parts of Central Asia where riders on horseback fight for possession of a dead goat and try to carry it to a scoring area. This is definitely one of the most intense “ball” sports variations I’ve ever heard about.
