A massive data breach has exposed 149 million usernames and passwords from various platforms, including Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, and Yahoo, according to a report by WIRED. The unprotected database, containing 149,404,754 unique login and password combinations, was discovered online and included credentials linked to financial services and popular platforms. The incident highlights serious lapses in data security and raises questions about how such a vast amount of sensitive information was left publicly accessible. Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler, who uncovered the database, believes the data was likely collected using infostealing malware. Fowler also recommends using strong, unique passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, keeping software and devices updated, avoiding suspicious links or downloads, and regularly monitoring accounts for unusual activity.
