Posting self hosted software every day until we have communities - Day 6 - Wiki.js
Hi, it’s me. Your favorite Digg user. Day 6 brings us to Wiki.js, a self-hosted wiki that’s basically your personal knowledge base without the ads or lock-in of something like Notion. This is where I dump all the messy details that keep my setup from falling apart (with the articles written by a self hosted LLM). For hardware tracking, I’ve got pages dedicated to each server listing serial numbers, IP assignments, drive configs, etc. Software side, it’s great for configs: custom Zabbix trigger buildouts, a section for notes on actively running scripts, dumps of yaml/toml configs, and so on. It’s flexible enough to handle folders and subpages, so you can nest things logically. Search works well for quick access and you can tag pages or add attachments for logs and diagrams. Mobile access via the web UI means I can check notes from my phone if I’m somewhere around the house and need to reference something. One setup I recommend is a “Dead Man’s Switch” subsection under a private root page. Just in case life throws a curveball like getting very sick or, worst case, hit by a bus. I’ve got mine locked behind a simple password shared with my wife (shared with my wife in a secure physical location) with a copy of the budget, details on getting into my password manager for access to anything she would need, a few cheesy love letters, general instruction on how to easily tap into funds should be she need them, emergency contacts for utilities, and so on. Organize your life and offload the things you don’t need to keep stored in your brain. Official site: https://js.wiki
