I Own My Data & I Like it?

About 6 years ago I ditched everything Apple. I went full in on Android, migrated YEARS of Apple Photos into Google Photos, etc. I can't say I am any happier with Google. I am constantly made aware that I am worth more to them than the value I receive (in most cases pay a premium for). I am in the process of going full in on Linux for all my devices, I got all Chromium based browsers a couple years ago. I want to cut the Google cord but I don't really know where to go. I've tried all the Proton stuff, it doesn't feel right yet for me (but they have come a long way in recent years so I might give it another go). I am interested in knowing what other people have done, how far they have gotten, if I should just set up a home server and deal with it. How do I become the master of my own domain?
