Hypoxic training does not outperform normal training
Low‑oxygen training isn’t better than normal training for improving cardiometabolic health in overweight adults.
A recent meta-analysis of 9 randomized controlled trials involving 278 overweight or obese adults found that hypoxic training, which involves exercising in low oxygen conditions, does not provide additional cardiometabolic benefits compared to normal training in a normoxic environment. The study compared the impact of low-oxygen and normal-oxygen exercises on blood pressure, lipids, and fasting glucose, finding no significant differences. The researchers suggest that larger, better-designed trials with uniform participant groups and standardized hypoxia protocols are needed to determine if specific conditions or populations might benefit more from hypoxic training.
