Alabama town’s first Black mayor, who had been locked out of office, wins election
In Alabama, Patrick Braxton, the first Black mayor of Newbern, won re-election after a legal battle, securing 66 votes against 26, following a dispute over his previous exclusion from office.
He ran unopposed in 2020, but the town council locked him out of the town hall and blocked access to the financial accounts. He had to file suit and won after three years of litigation. He just won reelection. > “It feels good the second time,” Braxton said.
