Trump FCC threatens to enforce equal-time rule on late-night talk shows - Ars Technica
Oh. Fun. Let's expand the Propagand-O-Sphere. Free speech. Transparency. The law and whatnot. Feh.
The FCC, chaired by Trump supporter Brendan Carr, has issued a warning to late-night and daytime talk shows, suggesting these shows may no longer qualify for an exemption to the FCC’s equal-time rule. This move could pressure shows into seeking out more interviews with Republican candidates. The FCC's public notice states that federal rules prevent broadcast television stations from unfairly favoring one political candidate over another. However, Commissioner Anna Gomez, the only Democrat on the FCC, criticized the announcement, stating that it does not change the law and represents an escalation in the FCC's campaign to censor and control speech.
