As a Foreigner, I Truly Don’t Understand the State of US Political Division.
I’m British and our level of polarisation has increased in recent years. But it seems the level of polarisation in the USA is insane on the face of it.
As intellectual arguments:
I can understand wanting people who entered your country illegal removed.
I can understand strict border controls
But surely how can anyone justify:
zero accountability for federal agents.
Grabbing US citizens off the streets and locking them up because they can’t immediately prove they are not illegals.
Demanding papers from racially profiled US citizens just walking down the street.
Warrantless searches of properties.
Removing people From the country without due process
Blatant documented excessive force
Roving patrols
I don’t even know where to start with the killings…. I’m at a loss for words there.
When I say anyone justify. I mean literally anyone, of any political persuasion other than fascist.
Is the US actually so entrenched that massive numbers of Trump supporters are backing this? Or are those abroad just seeing a vocal minority?
It boggles my mind that this is even open for discussion in a civilised society. None of ICE’s recent actions are remotely OK from a democracy.
Am I missing part of the story?
I have to imagine that list above would be entirely objectionable to a MAGA supporter out of context. But since it’s ICE and Trump doing it, then it’s fine. Is it just simply racism?
Any supporters of these actions out there want to explain (earnestly) your point of view to the
confused rest of the world?
