NVIDIA acquires Groq assets, specializing in high performance AI accelerator chips
NVIDIA has agreed to acquire assets from Groq, a startup specializing in high-performance AI accelerator chips, for $20 billion. Groq, which raised $750 million in September 2025 at a $6.9 billion valuation, will enter into a non-exclusive licensing agreement with NVIDIA for its inference technology. Key team members from Groq, including its founder Jonathan Ross, will join NVIDIA to help scale the technology, while Groq will continue to operate independently with Simon Edwards as CEO. This acquisition is seen as a significant indicator of the industry's shift towards more efficient, specialized hardware for Edge AI applications.
