Amsterdam prepares to ‘ban the fatbikes’ amid rise in serious accidents | Netherlands | The Guardian

Amsterdam is set to ban souped-up e-bikes, known as fatbikes, in city parks due to a rise in serious accidents, particularly among children aged 12 to 15. Despite the bikes' limited factory speed of 15mph, many riders modify them to reach 25mph, leading to safety concerns. The head of transport, Melanie van der Horst, announced the ban in response to numerous requests and safety data showing 5,000 fatbike riders are treated in A&E departments annually.
