Los Angeles murder rate falls, officer-involved shootings soar
The homicide rate in Los Angeles last year
dropped to its lowest level since Dwight
Eisenhower was president. However, officer-
involved shootings spiked significantly.
Police Chief Jim McDonnell shared that data
with the Los Angeles Police Commission on
Tuesday. He said the city saw 22,022 fewer
crimes against persons and property in 2025
than in 2024, the nonprofit news outlet
Crosstown L.A. reported.
In 2021, there were 402 murders in L.A., the
highest total in 15 years. The number of victims
has fallen each year since then, dropping to 230
last year, McDonnell told the commission.
