Americans with six-figure incomes are in 'survival mode'
Well that's rich, as the saying goes. My unsympathetic view: The reality is that a person earning $200K has far more discretionary income and latitude in their budget than someone earning $50K - $100K. And the Harris Poll (linked in the article) shows that those "lower" earners are living more within their means! If the $200K earner is drowning in credit card debt for groceries (of all things to be listed as #1 -- WTAF), it is a direct result of choices that allocated too much income to fixed expenses (housing, cars) and lifestyle, leaving zero margin for essentials, which seems to be reflected in the Harris Poll. Thoughts? 🤦🏻♂️
A recent Harris poll reveals that a six-figure income in 2025 equates to survival rather than success, with one in three six-figure earners describing themselves as financially distressed. Despite high-income Americans driving consumer spending, years of inflation have devalued the six-figure income, making it difficult for many to achieve financial stability.
