Apple taps Google Gemini to power Siri. Privacy stays on Apple. Control shifts quietly.
Apple plans to use Google's 1.2 trillion parameter AI model to power its new Siri, investing about $1 billion a year.
Apple just locked in a multiyear deal with Google. Gemini models will power Apple Intelligence and the next version of Siri, with reports pointing to roughly $1B a year.
The interesting part isn’t the AI upgrade. It’s the positioning. Apple is fine outsourcing foundation models while keeping distribution, UX, and privacy firmly in house through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.
That feels deliberate. Google gets scale and revenue without owning the interface. Apple gets state of the art AI without rushing model development. The “build everything yourself” era might already be over.
Question is whether this finally makes Siri relevant again, or just turns Apple into the cleanest wrapper around someone else’s intelligence.
