Bury to Disagree
With the broader userbase the achilles' heel of any voting based platform is start to rear its head, namely pressing the down arrow because you don't like the content of a post regardless of its quality. Certainly some ideas are bad and deserve to be buried, but I guess that's the question. What is digg doing, and what are we doing as a community, to guide the userbase to a culture where burying posts, particularly comments, is used as a tool to hide low effort, poor quality posts and not simply as a method to pile on as an internet mob?
One sometimes successful strategy would be to hide the number of diggs on posts for some length of time to discourage mob mentality, but I also think we need to have a larger conversation as users on how we can do better, self reinforce.
