Honest Discussion and Discourse Impossible
Holy cow! Downvoted for pointing out that maybe not laughing at people from the jump and not being biased might lead to honest discussion. My bad, I had no idea that was such wrongthink statement based on the downvotes. Pretty much guarantees that is going to be an echo chamber if discussion can't be had freely without being downvoted into oblivion for such a straightforward statement. Some of us can have political discussion without biased hardcore opinions cluttering honest discourse. There is already a heavy lean in one direction in that community making real, honest, and non-biased discussion impossible.
I want to have real, honest discussions on Digg, including those on the subject of politics. I'm not trying to espouse crazy far right or left reee-ing points. In its current state, /politics is not that place. Especially if your talking point is perceived anywhere to the right of super liberal. This is the same problem that plagues X, Reddit, Blusky, Mastodon, Facebook, and just about anywhere humans talk about contentious topics. I stopped using Facebook in about 2016 because I didn't want to deal with the fallout from the election. I stayed silent on Twitter for fear of being shadow banned, canceled, or my account suspended before Elon Musk bought it, however, is now a cesspool of low quality reee-ing. Not because of what I was saying, but because anything perceived as different from the hardcore dogmatic belief of the Left and Right, you risk losing any ability to use your voice. Punished for speaking up or out and throwing your voice in the ring or suffer in silence by keeping it to yourself. Neither way is any way to live.
Let's make Digg different than those other online spaces. A place where people can have real discussions without fear of being silenced by the loud minority of each political battleline. We have a chance guys, but you have to check your biases at the door and be open to hearing something you may not want to here. Sometimes it doesn't make something not true. If you truly, and I mean truly, think something is flat out untrue, back that shit up with real research and real facts. If a hot take is just a hot take, it's just that. Treat it as such. If you need to defend you hot take, back that shit up with facts. The political discussion online is full of people acting like children. Let's be adults about this instead.
