Two Dabbling Ducks
I just learned that mallards are also known as “dabbling ducks” because they feed in shallow freshwater by tipping their heads underwater with their tails up.
They’re also known as “puddle ducks” for this reason. How wonderful is that?
I took this photo from my phone while on a walk around the pond. I love how peaceful they look!
And without looking it up, I couldn’t tell you why I sometimes see ruffled feathery remnants on their bills, but they are adorable.
