KitchenAid Professional 600 Series Mixer
I don't want this community to just become a meme-version of the Reddit one, but I feel like there needs to be a few posts espousing the essential BIFL items to get them out of the way.
My submission is my KitchenAid Professional 600 Series mixer.
I've owned the regular consumer model (called the Artisan I think), and that model is made to a much lower standard, is harder to repair, and is not as powerful. I recently purchased the Pro 600 from an estate sale for about $65. It had a grinding noise when using. Knowing how to repair the Artisan model, I began to take the 600 apart to fix it expecting the same. Instead, I was relieved to see that everything inside is super modular. All of the parts comes out with just a basic phillips or robertson screwdriver. Everything is very simple to replace. This is in contrast to the old Artisan I had where there was much less space to work in, and working on it required other tools. To repair my 600, all I had to do was add grease to the planetary gear (all the gear teeth were still fine). Took about 15mins to do including cleanup.
I love this mixer, and I expect to keep it for the rest of my life considering how simple it is to repair.
