Any other remote workers out there?
I got a new job this year, working remotely for the first time since Covid. I loved the idea of my job at first, the freedom of working from wherever, being able to flip my laundry mid-day. It was great in so many ways.
But what I played off as me trying extra hard my first few weeks, became a really bad habit of not being able to clock out. I was working from like 8am til 8 pm, and always felt like it was not enough. After a few months, I got so burnt out.
I felt like I couldn't take any breaks throughout the day anymore because I was not being as productive as I once was. Long breaks made me lazier, short breaks made me anxious. Eventually, after a major meltdown or two, I realized that not taking any real breaks was killing my productivity even more.
So I started using structured breaks, Pomodoro-type methods. But the most effective for me was 50/10 break structure (threw me back to my high school class periods) and going on little walks during my breaks. With this change, I no longer find my work draining.
Curious how others structure breaks when working remotely?
