I saved the wrong one :(

It was a normal raid in a friendly lobby. I was heading to the extraction point beside Water Treatment Control, trying to find the last mushroom I needed to get Scrappy to level 5. Spoiler alert: I never found it.

As I turned the corner, I started hearing a lot of gunfire, sounded like a Stitcher going wild. Someone was calling the elevator, and the other one – I imagine a little camping – was waiting for the poor bastard to bring it down.

One thing that amazes me about this game is how quickly any situation can change. For a few seconds there was a fierce firefight where no one had the upper hand… until the Rocketer did what they do best: kill everyone without hesitation.

One fare finally goes up. I arrive just in time to see exactly why I haven’t stopped playing for the last two weeks (I’m fairly new, only level 34). One of the riders (not sure if it was the camper or the victim) was about to end the suffering of the downed player. What I didn’t expect was that the Rocketer had a different plan, delivering a nice dose of karma to those who deserved it.

Three rockets in a row ended it. Both riders went down, lying there and realizing their fate was no longer in their own hands. I was lucky, the Rocketer decided to spread happiness somewhere else. As soon as both riders saw me, they each started claiming the other one shot first. I was in a predicament. I had no proof, no way to know for sure who was the rat and who was the innocent comrade. I wanted to send the little bastard back to the lobby.

In the end, there were two options: kill them both, or send them both home safely on the elevator. I chose the second one, and I’m not proud of it. I saved a rat. He’ll get a second chance when people better than him didn’t.
