Archaeologists have discovered a 2,400-year-old Hercules shrine and elite tombs near Via Pietralata in Rome's suburbs. The tombs, part of a funerary complex, date back to the Roman Republic, while the shrine was used between the fifth or fourth centuries B.C. and the first century A.D. The site also includes an ancient roadway and two large basins likely used in sacred ceremonies.
