Readers keep recommending Dungeon Crawler Carl to me, is it any good?

I'm a fan of fiction about survival and sci-fi apocalypses, so people have recommended the Dungeon Crawler Carl series to me. Has anyone read it, and what do you think? Books I like include Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis series, Hunger Games, Adrian Tchaikovsky.
